My Mental health journey.

How to overcome and how a fitness routine keeps me right.

January 17th 2026.

Hello. I would like to share my Personal story of struggles with mental ilness especially in my early 20s.

How I overcame and managed serious mental illness (Scizphophicive disorder) I butcherd the spelling but what that illness is is like bi polor with delusions, hearing voices that arnt there.

(They feel like spirts that are talking to you and directing you sometimes or sometimes being your best friend or worst enemy kinda like the cartoons with the angels and demons chatting on your shoulders.

Hey maybe it is kinda spiritual it definitely feels that way but hey to overcome what I've been through not saying that ive had the hardest life ever but definitely had an eternal conflict especially with my confidence in relationships and finding full time work because of my disability.

Side note I finally got a girlfriend and she is amazing and accepts me and is so supportive! Also I was feeling a lack of confidence in going back to work becuase of some of the symptoms but hey I didn't give up went to business management online school for the last 4 in a half years and switched to a graphic design major since late July 2025. Going back to school not only gave me confidence in my personal

life but gave me time to work on school on my own schedule while focusing on my mental health and counseling and just overall trying to live a balanced healthy life.

Going back to school got me my new job as a personal trainer which has been a tough tough journey because in one of my mental health episodes I apparently got into a fight with the police and now have a criminal record.

My ego kinda thinks im cool getting into a fight with the police like yeah fuck the police they hate black people they always hating and they lied on the police report about me.

Many reasons why to be mad at the police but learning one thing about being in jail and the mental health hospital for 8 months is that there really is a separate community of people some with mental health issues that can't deal with society and others just really bad people that have character flaws and are just people you dont want to be around.

And the police keep us safe from those people we dont want in our communities. I was cast away from society and social activities for a months in jail as they were waiting for a hospital bed for me to be evaluated.

We need the people to keep us safe from certain people as much as I personally dislike the police becuase of my personal experiences and even made funny hip hop music about it thinking I was a wannabe gangster getting in fights with the police. Fights with the police are not fun and very serious and painful.

The police are here to protect us and the biggest lesson I can give you if you struggle from mental health is to take your medication religiously and seek out outpatient treatment as difficult or boring as it might be.

The reason why I didn't take my medication is that I didnt belive I had illness and was misdiagnosed but not listening to professionals almost cost me my life and would have saved me a criminal record, embarrassment. shame, guit, and lost time. Thankfully I got another opportunity to start work again as a personal trainer and have my blog and design freelancer business that I am looking forward to starting.

Lesson of this blog post. Dont give up, take your medication, You can still have friends and a spouse as someone who lives with mental illness. And you can live a normal life. Fitness has also always been a cornerstone of my mental health and you can find me zoning out doing med ball slams outside to get a break and feel that experience you get from working out! Stay safe! Your friend Coach Austin!
